When to leave Kata for your flight

Many travellers aim to reach the airport about 3 hours before an international flight. That is general advice, not a promise from us, so check your airline's own check-in times. The drive from Kata is about 1 hour 15 minutes, so the latest pick-up time is the airport time minus 1 hour 15 minutes.

Treat the last column as the latest, not the target. Ask for a pick-up 15 to 30 minutes earlier, because the streets around Kata and Karon slow down at busy hours.

How the hotel pick-up works in Kata

When you book you give the hotel name, a map pin if you have one, and your flight time. The driver arrives at the agreed time and helps with the luggage.

Kata has more than one kind of address. Hotels on Kata Road or along the beachfront are easy to find. Places on Patak Road or in side lanes can be harder to reach, and anything on the hill towards Kata Noi is on a steep road. A pin removes the guessing. If your resort has a main lobby and a separate gate, say which one you want.

Which car for the way back

Going home, your luggage is usually heavier than when you arrived, with souvenirs added. A sedan at 999 THB takes up to 3 passengers with luggage. For 4 passengers take the SUV or MPV at 1,199 THB. The minibus at 1,499 THB takes up to 9, and the VIP minibus at 1,999 THB takes up to 8 in a premium cabin.

If the cases will not fit under your seat count, take the next size up.

The road from Kata to the airport

The drive is 46 km. The car leaves the Kata and Karon streets, crosses the hilly middle of the island and joins Highway 402, then runs north. Near the end it passes the Heroines Monument roundabout in Thalang. The airport is at the northern end of the island, so you travel almost the full length of Phuket.

At the airport

The car stops at the departures hall, close to check-in. You do not need to find a gate, because the Gate 2 and Gate A meeting points are for arriving passengers only.

Transfers run 24/7, so a flight at 6 am gets the same fixed price as one at noon. Trips between 24 December and 5 January carry a holiday surcharge of 400 THB per car, so book early for those dates.
